I interviewed Greg Nield, entrepreneur and owner of Island Liquors in Merritt Island, Florida. He said their "target customers" or his "20 percent" is males between the age of 40 and 50. Due to the store's location in a town with a wide range of wealth, frequent customers are usually white collar workers living on Tropical Trail(mansions on the water) or blue collared workers coming from 520. Their customers' unmet needs is that there are only two liquor stores in Merritt Island, Island Liquors and ABC Liquor. Mr. Nield's store is in a prime location on Courtney Road, located directly next to Publix. Also, Island Liquor provides fair prices and agrees to match the price of their competitor ABC if higher. Through advertisements in the Merritt Island hometown news with coupons, radio announcements, and signs around the area, people know of Island Liquors. Because their main consumers are middle aged men, social media sites such as Instagram or Facebook does not really appeal to them. These men rather listen to the radio in their cars or read the newspaper. However, Island Liquors does have a website.

The Twenty Percent

Because we are in a college town, I was unable to interview Island Liquors main customer base(middle aged men living in Merritt Island. However, I sought out three guys in Gainesville who live in Merritt Island and are customers of Island Liquors. I think the entrepreneur adequately understands his customers problems.

Hey Lauren,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the interviews. I'm sorry it was hard to find customers to interview, but it looks like you did the best you could with what you had. It looks like the entrepreneur has a good handle on who his customer base is. The only thing I was curious about is, why does he think his customers are only male? There are plenty of females who drink a lot too. Is there something about his business that is more appealing to men? Either way great job!

Hello Lauren,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job interviewing! I can tell your entrepreneur 100% understands his customers and knows what to do in order to increase his business. Even he notices his competitors and price match if more expensive than competitors. But I am sorry to hear that you could not find target customers. But overall, great job! Please visit my blog and give me some feedback on my Twenty Percent! It is http://bongjukang.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-twenty-percent.html#comment-form. Thanks!
Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI would like to compliment your diligence in your answers and interviews. From your blog, I agree it does seem that the entrepreneur adequately understands the customer's problems. Although you had difficulty finding target customers, I applaud your effort to continue on with the assignment to the best of your ability regardless. I wish you the best in the remainder of the class and look forward to seeing some new posts soon.
Sincerely,
Louis DiPaolo Jr.
Hey Lauren,
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the interviews. You seemed to make the interviewees feel comfortable and they offered some good answers as a result. It's too bad you weren't able to interview anyone in the 40-50 year old range, but I guess that's to be expected o n a college campus. I found it interesting that people are hearing about the store through Facebook, even though their target market doesn't usually use the website.
Thanks for sharing! Here's a link to my post if you want to check it out. http://jamestyrrell.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-twenty-percent.html
Hey Lauren, great interviews! I thought it was very interesting that they only had one other liquor store as competition, because where I'm from there's one on almost every street corner. It's too bad you couldn't interview the actual customers, but interviewing the three customers of Island Liquors was the next best thing. Great job!
